Product details

Name: European Hazel Scientific: Corylus avellana A.K.A.: Common Hazel, Barcelona-nut, Common Filbert, European Filbert This Variation: 3 of 5. This is a High Poly model. A Low Poly version is also available. Notes: This plant belongs to the same family of trees as the birch (family Betulaceae), however it is often found as a bush rather than a tree. It occurs as an understory species in deciduous woods, particularly in oak woodlands. Hazel has a wide distribution throughout Europe, reaching as far east as the Ural Mountains, and from Scandinavia to Spain, Italy and Greece. It is also found in North Africa, Turkey, Iran and the Caucasus region of south west Russia. In Britain it is a common feature of hedgerows, where it is coppiced. It tends to produce several trunks or shoots rather than just one. The nuts are edible and often grown in commercial quantities. This species has been employed by humans for a variety of uses during the past 6,000 years. Hazel poles, which result from coppicing, can be split lengthways, and can be twisted without breaking. They were used during the Neolithic to make wattle for the construction of wattle and daub houses. Wattle fencing is used even today. In Celtic mythology, hazel nuts were believed to represent concentrated wisdom. Included in this Package: 15 models in total Standard — 83,231 polygons, 98,030 vertices, 5.64m tall. Green, fully mature and in good health. Useable in most scenes. Spring — 83,327 polygons, 98,130 vertices, 5.77m tall. Seasonal, immature leaves have just begun to grow. Autumn — 83,375 polygons, 98,202 vertices, 5.72m tall. Leaves have changed colour and some fallen. Winter — 83,727 polygons, 98,568 vertices, 5.7m tall. Barren branches. Thriving — 103,216 polygons, 121,860 vertices, 5.91m tall. Peak health. Distressed — 63,433 polygons, 74,348 vertices, 5.64m tall. Declining health with some diseased and broken foliage. Unhealthy — 45,807 polygons, 53,370 vertices, 5.47m tall. Poor state with considerable foliage missing or diseased. Dying — 32,727 polygons, 37,761 vertices, 5.23m tall.
